Beyond the Limits: Why I Built Exodus Benefits

For most of my adult life, I thought success looked a certain way.

Corporate title.

Big accounts.

Big responsibilities.

Big income.

And for a while… I achieved it.

Before insurance, before financial services, before Exodus Benefits ever existed, I was an executive in the Automotive Aftermarket industry leading sales teams across the United States and Latin America. I worked with massive companies like AutoZone, O’Reilly Auto Parts, NAPA, Amazon, and many others.

On the outside, life looked successful.

But behind the scenes, I was paying a price I didn’t fully understand yet.

Airports.

Hotels.

Rental cars.

Late-night calls.

Constant travel.

I spent nearly half my life on airplanes building a career that looked impressive on paper while quietly sacrificing time I could never get back.

Then life changed.

I went through a divorce.

And suddenly the things that mattered most became painfully clear.

I didn’t want to become a “part-time dad.” I love my children too much for that!

I didn’t want my children growing up remembering me as the guy who was always leaving for another flight, another meeting, another business trip.

I wanted freedom.

Not freedom to sit around and do nothing.

Freedom isn’t easy and it takes faith, time and sacrifice.

Freedom to actually BE THERE:

Football games.

Birthdays.

School events.

Family dinners.

Ordinary moments that become priceless later in life.

That season forced me to ask myself a question that changed everything:

“What kind of life am I actually building?”

I realized I didn’t just need a new job.

I needed a completely different path.

So I started researching industries that created real income and real ownership. I literally Googled:

“What industries create the highest income?”

That search led me into financial services.

And eventually… insurance.

At first, I knew almost nothing about the industry. But the deeper I looked, the more I realized something powerful:

This business had the potential to create both income AND freedom.

You could build your own schedule.

Build your own business.

Help families.

Create recurring income.

And if done correctly, actually reclaim your life.

That mattered to me far more than just money.

So I studied relentlessly.

I got licensed.

And I jumped into the business.

Like many agents entering this industry, I joined an IMO believing all the promises:

“You own your business.”

“You own your book.”

“You control your future.”

And honestly, I’m grateful for that chapter because I learned a tremendous amount.

I worked hard.

Really hard.

I became one of the top rookie producers in the company. I won awards. Impact Player of the Year. 10k weeks. 15k weeks. 20k weeks.

Plaques.

Recognition.

Glass trophies.

But over time, I started realizing something didn’t feel right.

Yes, I was producing.

Yes, I was helping clients.

But I still didn’t feel like I had truly created the freedom I originally came looking for.

The deeper I got into the business, the more I realized the structure itself was working against many agents.

You started at very low commissions.

You had to “earn” your way up slowly.

Your upline made more money off your production than you did in the beginning.

And the “ownership” many agents believed they had often wasn’t truly ownership at all.

That realization hit me hard because I had left corporate America searching for freedom… and in many ways, I had unknowingly walked into another system where agents could still feel trapped.

That experience became one of the biggest turning points of my life.

Because it forced me to ask a much bigger question:

“What would the RIGHT environment actually look like?”

Not just for me.

For my family.

For my future.

For other agents trying to build a better life.

Then I found Family First Life.

And for the first time since entering the industry, things finally aligned with the vision I originally had in my heart when I left corporate America.

After meeting leadership and hearing the philosophy behind the company, something clicked for me.

“If it’s good for the client, good for the agent, and doesn’t hurt the company… we do it.”

That statement from Shawn Meaike (Founder & CEO) changed everything for me!

Because for the first time, I found an environment that understood something important:

When agents are supported properly, families win too.

That matters.

Tray Honeycutt was instrumental in showing me what a person could achieve here at FFL with hard-work and dedication.

Because this business isn’t just about commissions.

It’s about what those commissions CREATE.

Time freedom.

Financial freedom.

The ability to be present.

The ability to build something your children are proud of.

The ability to stop surviving and actually start living.

That’s when the vision for Exodus Benefits was born. So with one Agent and the Trust of an amazing friend Les Draper, I took a leap of faith and made the switch!

I named the agency Exodus for a reason.

Just like the second book of the Bible:

“Let my people go.”

Because too many agents in this industry feel trapped.

Trapped under low commissions.

Trapped under poor leadership.

Trapped under organizations that preach “family” while agents quietly struggle financially behind the scenes.

I knew that feeling personally.

And I wanted to build the kind of agency I wish I had found from the very beginning.

A place where agents could truly grow.

A place where mentorship actually exists.

A place where support is real.

A place where faith, family, leadership, and freedom still matter.

At Exodus Benefits, we don’t just teach people how to sell insurance.

We help people build lives.

Lives where fathers are more present.

Lives where families have options.

Lives where people no longer feel financially trapped.

Lives where agents can build real ownership and real income.

And unlike many organizations, we believe agents should have flexibility and freedom. Kyle & Ginger Lichlyter showed me what true Leadership was and helped to guide me through the process of creating an impactful agency that fosters Agent Growth through servant leadership! So blessed to have found them.

We now help clients with:

  • Health Insurance

  • Life Insurance

  • Mortgage Protection

  • IULs

  • Annuities

  • Final Expense

  • Retirement Planning

  • Living Benefits

  • And much more

Agents can use both sides of their license.

Work with multiple carriers.

Build personal brands.

Generate their own leads.

Create their own systems.

And most importantly — build a business that supports THEIR life instead of consuming it.

Because at the end of the day…

That’s what this was always about for me.

Not trophies.

Not titles.

Not applause.

Family.

Freedom.

Faith.

Purpose.

Exodus Benefits was built because I refused to accept that success had to come at the expense of fatherhood.

And maybe you’re reading this right now feeling the exact same tension I once felt.

Maybe you’re successful on paper but empty in real life.

Maybe you’re tired of building someone else’s dream.

Maybe you know you’re capable of more.

Maybe you’re searching for a better environment.

Maybe you simply want your life back.

If that’s you…

You’re probably closer to your breakthrough than you realize.

One conversation.

One decision.

One leap of faith.

Can completely change your family’s future.

This is bigger than insurance.

This is Exodus and we are not done building by a long shot! Come and join this movement and let’s build something great together!

Faith. Strength. Purpose.
